About Nina

Nina Ballew, Executive Director at Heart of Play, brings over a decade and a half of experience as a Kindergarten teacher, early childhood specialist, and educational advocate in Whatcom County. As a mom of three young children, she has a personal and professional commitment to creating inclusive spaces where all children feel seen, valued, and supported.

Nina’s passion lies in building systems of belonging and fostering spaces where every child can thrive. Her comprehensive understanding of the needs of children and families in the community, combined with her expertise in planning meaningful learning experiences, positions her as a dedicated leader in early childhood education. Nina is well-equipped to lead the strategic development of Heart of Play’s children’s museum, ensuring it serves as a vibrant hub for families to learn and grow together.

About Kellie


Kellie Goodman, supporting Community Engagement and Partnerships, is a dedicated elementary school teacher with 13 years of experience in education and a deep passion for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics). Throughout her career, she has consistently championed innovative teaching practices and initiatives, piloting a science education consortium to enhance collaborative learning opportunities.  Recognized as a pioneer in implementing Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards, Kellie’s expertise and commitment to excellence have made her a trusted resource and advocate for progressive teaching methodologies. Beyond her professional achievements, Kellie is a proud mom of two young children. Her personal experience as a parent reinforces her belief in the transformative power of play for people of all ages.

About Lindsey

Lindsey Snyder, supporting Educational Programming, has over 20 years of experience as a museum educator. She has worked in multiple children's museums as well as The Field Museum in Chicago, a zoo, aquarium and even a planetarium. She holds a Masters of Science in Elementary Education from Northwestern University, and is currently a PhD Candidate at the University of British Columbia, with a research focus on using museum objects for learning in elementary settings. Throughout her career Lindsey has engaged families in learning experiences and taught a variety of ages from "Zoo Tots" to Teen Volunteers. She has also led countless professional development courses for teachers ranging from incorporating play and storytelling to using objects for inquiry learning.
